The Freelon Group, Architects was established in 1990 with two fundamental principles in mind: clear, strong ideas drive design excellence and the REACH of Architecture – the buildings and the profession – can and should extend beyond traditional limits.
These tenets are neither new nor unique. It is how they are brought together that sets the firm apart. The 11 projects represented in this exhibit exemplify the REACH of our work. Each design stems from a core idea linked to the clients' mission. The buildings are expressive of their place and reason for being. The work also brings design excellence to everyday people and public places – building bridges of understanding and providing venues for the exchange of ideas.
The armature of this exhibit extends the REACH theme in and through the space. Each project is introduced with a simple massing model or parti that establishes the seminal idea for the building. The drawings, photographs, models and text further clarify the designs and the process leading up to the completed buildings.
REACH also embraces women and minorities who have traditionally been underrepresented in the architecture profession. Broadening the talent pool elevates the work and ultimately enhances the lives of the people who live, work and play in the built environment.
