Kevin joined The Freelon Group in 2003 serving as Senior Project Architect on the 480,000 s.f. Central Region Hospital. With more than 12 years of experience, Kevin has been involved in most of the highly recognized work produced by the firm including the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African American Arts & Culture in Charlotte, NC, the International Civil Rights Center and Museum in Greensboro, NC and The School of Education at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, NC.
Kevin brings extensive technical knowledge and a passion for quality and innovation to The Freelon Group. In his role as principal in charge of the firm’s technical committee, he is responsible for ensuring that all of The Freelon Group’s work is innovative, clearly documented and well executed. He has led the effort to produce a comprehensive quality control and assurance program, overseen the production of an extensive master specification, created standards of practice for Construction Contract Administration and produced standardized drawings and details to make sure that all Freelon work is produced at the highest level and consistent with industry best practices. Over the years he has developed an expertise in building envelope design and regularly teaches classes in and out of the office.
Kevin received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Miami in 1994 and in 2000 he earned a Certificate of Construction Document Technology from the Construction Specifications Institute and became a Certified Construction Contract Administrator.
Kevin has worked in the offices of Wallace Roberts & Todd in Miami, Wakefield Beasely & Associates in Atlanta, Portman Fruchtman Vinson Sunderland Architects and RTKL. While at RTKL, he served as a technical leader on a 1,500 room convention hotel in Orlando, FL, the 574,000 s.f. U.S. Capitol Visitor Center and the 2.2 million s.f. headquarters for the Food and Drug Administration.
