Kenneth Luker | AIA, LEED AP
Associate Principal
Kenneth Luker joined The Freelon Group in 2006 and has more than 13 years experience in the architectural design arena. Kenneth’s award winning design career spans a variety of architectural project types with a particular emphasis on college/university design, laboratory facilities, public buildings, and corporate offices.
Kenneth graduated with honors from Texas A&M University’s College of Architecture in 1991 and earned his Master of Architecture from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design in 1996. He also studied abroad at the University of Cambridge, England in 1995 where he studied Architectural Design and Philosophy.
Kenneth has served the professional community as a member of the AIA Triangle Board of Directors, Chair of the Triangle Design Awards Committee and the Isosceles Awards Committee. He is currently serving as Chair of the AIA Triangle Communications Committee. Kenneth has served several years as Adjunct Associate Professor in Architecture at North Carolina State University’s College of Design. He has lectured throughout the US and Canada on various design topics, including preservation of modern architecture, the effects of the built environment on social behavior, and thin cladding systems. He recently juried the 2008 AIA Wisconsin design awards program.
In his role as a Design Principal, Kenneth leads all projects with a strong understanding that Design is to be in the service of a building’s purpose and should be an expression of the collaborative effort of Client and Architect. His experience enables him to see beyond passing design fads to recognize those innovative attributes of architecture that have relevant and enduring value. Kenneth incorporates this into a design process that begins by seeking a thorough understanding of the Client’s needs and objectives. This understanding is at the root of his ability to bring clarity to the inherent complexities of a project in support of formal solutions that are both functional and poetic.
