Research Triangle Park, NC - Phil Freelon, FAIA, president of The Freelon Group and the 2003 Distinguished Alumnus of the North Carolina State University College of Design, will deliver the commencement address at the College of Design's Graduation Ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, May 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the Talley Student Center.
"I have always felt an affinity for my alma mater, and I am very honored to be asked to address the graduates," says Freelon. "I hope to share some insights about the design professions while reminding the graduates of the need to balance personal design expression with the responsibility to contribute in a positive way to the environment."
Freelon has remained active with the College since his graduation. He taught there for seven years as an adjunct professor, and has served on the College's Design Guild, raising money for scholarships.
"We are very proud to have Phil as one of our distinguished alumni. He has remained active with the College through his teaching, mentoring of recent graduates, and leadership as Design Guild President," says Marvin Malecha, FAIA, dean of the NC State College of Design. "The work of his office is exemplary, and he is a great role model for our graduating students."
