Victor Vines, vice president of The Freelon Group Architects, served as a presenter at the Society for College and University Planning's (SCUP) 40th Annual International Conference in Washington, DC on July 25th. Joining Vines was Andrew Perkins, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Facilities at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro. The title of their session was "Physical Change - a Catalyst for Building Connections, Education and Pride."

N.C. A&T State University has grown from 6,000 to 10,300 students in approximately five years. This conference session provided an in-depth look at how the university's master plan has stimulated this growth. The master plan is removing barriers and forging links across the campus - physically and psychologically. Using new and renovated facilities, the plan is encouraging interaction and nurturing opportunities for learning.

The session also explored how this Historically Black College & University's collaboration with an African-American architectural firm is meeting its goal of increasing creative minority participation on campus to benefit students, faculty and staff.

Established in 1965, SCUP is the only association focused on the promotion, advancement, and application of effective planning in higher education. The theme of the 40th annual conference was "Planning - Linking - Learning." To learn more about SCUP, visit www.scup.org.
