Freelon receives 2008 AIA Triangle Award

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC –– The Freelon Group Architects received an AIA (American Institute of Architects) Triangle 2008 Merit Award in the Un-built Category for its design of the Anacostia Neighborhood Library in Washington, DC. The library is part of the District of Columbia Public Library System. The award was presented at the AIA Triangle Section’s annual awards reception at the Contemporary Art Museum (CAM) in Raleigh on April 29, 2008. A public lecture by architect Robert Hull, FAIA of Seattle, Washington followed the awards presentation.

The AIA Triangle Design Awards are given to architects in recognition of design excellence. Four Merit Awards were selected this year from a total of 78 entries, which were submitted by AIA members throughout the Triangle area of North Carolina.

The Freelon Group is a 56-person, award-winning architectural firm founded by Philip G. Freelon, FAIA (Fellow, American Institute of Architects) in 1990. The firm’s design portfolio centers on Higher Education, Science/Technology and Museum and Cultural Center projects.
