Tim Winstead and Dr. Li-An Yeh Co-Present on the BRITE Center at the 2012 School and College Building Conference in Orlando
Timothy Winstead, AIA, LEED AP, Principal of The Freelon Group, and Dr. Li-An Yeh, Director of the BRITE Center, presented a case study session on the planning, design and private enterprise outreach behind North Carolina’s BRITE (Biomanufacturing Research Institute and Technology Enterprise) Center.
Titled “A Proven Model for Education and Industry Partnering,” the session was delivered at the annual School and College Building Expo and Conference, an annual education conference produced in conjunction with that American Institute of Architects (AIA). The AIA’s Committee on Architecture and Education awarded the BRITE Center its highest honor, the Design Excellence Award. The Freelon Group served as design lead, laboratory planner and lead programmer for BRITE; O’Brien/Atkins Associates of Durham served as Architect of Record.
Located on the campus of North Carolina Central University, The BRITE Center is a critical component of North Carolina’s BioImpact, a collaborative partnership providing career training to produce skilled workers for the growing biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry.
Tim Winstead, AIA, LEED AP is a Principal and Director of Science and Technology at The Freelon Group. His broad range of experience with science facilities includes planning and design of projects in secondary education, higher education and R&D for life science and pharmaceutical clients.
