Mark A. Hill

Mark joined The Freelon Group in 2009 as a Senior Associate to become part of the management team for the design of the Smithsonian Institute’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC.  Prior to joining Freelon, Mark held the position of Associate / officer with the firm Gwathmey Siegel & Associates Architects.  During his 13 year tenure Mark was the Associate-in-Charge of several projects including The Jewish Children’s Museum in Brooklyn, NY, the New Library at Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT and private residences in New York City.

While in the role of Project Architect at GSAA, Mark had extensive experience in the planning, design, project management and construction administration of many large scale and technically complex projects.  A few such projects include the Science, Industry and Business Library (SIBL) of the New York Public Library in New York City, the Saint Vincent’s Comprehensive Cancer Center in New York City and the design of private residences in Malibu, CA and Austin, TX.

Prior to joining GSAA, Mark was with the firm I. M. Pei & Partners Architects.  There he gained experience in the planning and design of several large scale projects.  Some of these projects included the San Francisco New Main Library, San Francisco, CA, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Washington DC, The Ronald Reagan Federal Office Building, Washington DC and the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management, Los Angeles, CA.

Mark brings to Freelon his expertise and experience of working on high quality award winning designs.  He is a native of New York City and earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.  Mark spent 25 years practicing in New York City and in addition to the above has held positions of responsibility as Director of Technical Services, Adjunct Professor, Lecturer and Design Critic. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects.
