The Freelon Group, in association with Einhorn Yaffe Prescott and LandDesign, was retained by the University of North Carolina-Asheville for the design for Governor's Hall Phase II, a 250 to 300 bed Residence Hall. This project consisted of a Program Verification Report, Unit Type Study, and a Site Selection Study that included a Dining Hall in conjunction with the Residence Hall.
The outcome of the Pre-Design efforts was the selection of a preferred site for the residence hall. As Freelon and EYP moved into Schematic Design, the next steps included a study of different options for building placement and orientation on that site. This included plan, section, elevation and massing studies. Plan studies consisted of schematic site plan configurations and floor plan layouts of programmed spaces within the residence hall. Schematic Design for the residence hall also included a study of Arts & Crafts style architecture to fit with the existing style established by Governors Hall Phase I.
