Project Details
LOCATION: East Hanover, NC
PROJECT SIZE: 117,000 SQ FT
PROJECT COST: $7,600,000
Novartis constructed a new state of the art research center called the Novartis Research Center (NRC) in East Hanover to consolidate their research operations in New Jersey onto single site. Just prior to its completion, it was determined that they would relocate these operations to Cambridge, MA and utilize the research center for development labs.
The new master plan for the East Hanover campus called for the renovation and/or demolition of an existing building (Building 405) for use as an office building. Building 405 had been occupied by numerous development groups. The project included programming and assessment of the space currently occupied by development groups in Building 405 and the creation of conceptual floor plans for how these groups might fit into the lab space available in the NRC.
The Programming / Planning Study included a space program, floor plans of the proposed layouts, and demolition plans of the affected areas and list of the major equipment to be relocated in the new labs. Upon conclusion of the planning study, the renovation plan was implemented for approximately 60,000 net usable Sq. Ft. (117,000 GSF) of development labs at an average cost of $65/Sq. Ft. The project was designed and constructed in approximately 14 months.
